The U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program supported more than 700 less fortunate children in 2022 via the charitable assistance of area businesses and the Christmas Mother programs in Alleghany Co. and Bath Co.

Covington’s businesses led all other areas in providing assistance with Honda Nissan of Covington lending a helping hand and Schewels pitching in to help brighten Christmas for children in need as well.

People’s Bank of Covington rose to the occasion as did Highlands Community Bank of Covington.

Also, Highlands Community Bank of Clifton Forge contributed to the success of the program.

Alcova Mortgage helped Toys for Tots which was founded in Los Angeles in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks and Diane Hendricks.

The Toys for Tots’ mission has remained the same, to provide toys to families in need, and Toys for Tots is a foundation that is assisted by the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve.

Since its start-up, Toys for Tots has served 281 million children nationwide.

James and Becky Downer, Toys for Tots’ volunteer coordinators for Alleghany Co. and Bath Co., provided the update on the successful program and expressed their appreciation for the help the businesses and both Christmas Mother programs provided.
