The Alleghany Mountaineers (6-10, 0-6) fell behind early against the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers (11-5) and never really recovered as the Cavaliers were victorious in Low Moor on Monday over the Mountaineers 74-55.
Backed by Tyler Meade’s game-high 27 points, the Cavaliers jumped out early on the Mountaineers 13-2 following a 11-0 scoring run in the first quarter after the game was tied at 2-2.
The Cavaliers would build their lead to as much as 14 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, it was more of the same from Meade and the Cavaliers as they scored six of the first seven points of the quarter and took a 28-9 lead.
By the end of the first half the Mountaineers found themselves down by 27 points, 45-18.
In the second half the Mountaineers opened the third quarter very well by going on an 8-2 scoring which cut the lead down to 21 points at 47-26. A pair of three pointers from Xzavier Hayslett and Anthony Webb sparked the scoring run.
The Mountaineers momentum would shortly end after Meade hit all net on a three-pointer to rebuild Cavaliers lead back up to 24 points. Meade’s three-pointer was part of 7-0 scoring run.
Leading the way for the Mountaineers in scoring was Garrett Via who scored a team-high 14 points with nine of them coming in the first half. Xzavier Hayslett was the only other Mountaineer in double figures scoring with 12. Via and Hayslett each knocked down a pair of three-pointers.
Meade was one of three Cavaliers in double figures along with Jackson Crawford and Evan Bannwart each had 15 points.
It was the first meeting between both programs since December 2019.
The Mountaineers will look to snap their losing streak this Friday when they host the Glenvar Highlander at Mountaineer Arena. The Highlanders won the first meeting 57-54 in OT back on January 10th.
