Dear Editor,
People of the Highlands really need to support our local and state police. Police have been put down and humiliated across our nation. Some people want to cut their wages, and some even want cop-free towns! How stupid can people be? I guarantee that if these people had an accident or break-in, the first thing they would do is call 911 for the police to help them.
I talked to a couple of guys this week who said they hated cops. I asked why. Their answers were, “I had gotten tickets and I had to go to court.” I told them that they broke the law and should look in the mirror at the problem. A lot of people blame their troubles on everyone else.
Policemen are human beings like everybody else, but there is one big difference. When a cop gets up to go to work, they kiss their spouse and kids’ goodbye, not knowing if they will get back home. During their shift they get cursed and threatened and some even lose their lives. I was in the army for three years to protect my country, but a lot of cops retire after 20-30 years of service. Their main purpose is to protect innocent people from being run over by troublemakers and thieves. Our country would be in a war with the good people being run over and abused by the evil people of the country if the cops weren’t our wall of protection between the good, the bad and the ugly.
I personally believe the police should get the same benefits as an American soldier. Soldiers protect our nation, while our police force keeps the peace in our localities from harm every day! We all need to hold our police force to high standards and respect them for what they do. I say Thank God for our police who risk their lives on the line every day.
We should let them know how we respect them, send nice letters to the courthouse. Tell them Thank you for your service. I try to let them know I respect them by giving a thumbs up every time I pass a policeman or see one on the street.
My final statement is please respect the police anywhere you go. They are good human beings and have our best interest on their minds. God Bless the Police!
