Larry Allen Whitmer, 88, of Covington, died Sunday, November 13, 2022, at his residence.
He was born July 26, 1934, in Covington, a son of the late Linwood E. and Ruby Rae Whitmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Mae Snead Whitmer; a brother, Wayne Whitmer; and his sister, Patricia Matheny.
Larry retired as a truck driver from Cole’s Trucking. He had been employed at the former Hercules in Covington for many years. In his spare time, he was an avid NASCAR and Dallas Cowboys fan, loved working on and fixing everything from cars and jukeboxes – the latter being a specialty of his for many years.
Survivors include his three sons, Charles “Woody” Whitmer and wife, Kim of Yorktown, Alan Whitmer, and Gary Whitmer, both of Covington; two daughters, Robbie Horn and husband, Jeff, and Jackie Baker and her husband, Jeff, both of Covington; six grandchildren, Jennifer Lodge (Matt), Neil Horn, Jessica Hise (Brad), Jeri Hinebaugh (Dwayne), all of Covington, Jason Persinger (Kelly) and Meagan Whitmer, both of Roanoke; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family is planning a private memorial service at a later date.
