Eleven high school students from Alleghany Highlands Public Schools have been chosen for the Virginia Choral Directors Association’s District VI All-District Choir.
Auditions were held Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022.
Of the 11 AHPS students chosen, six are from Alleghany High School and five are from Covington High School. They will join more than 300 students from throughout District VI in participating in a two-day music event at Salem High School in February.
Amanda Sprouse is the choral director at Alleghany High School. The choral director at Covington High School is Kaitlyn Peters.
“These students worked so hard to prepare, and it shows,” the choral directors said in a joint statement. “Please congratulate these students when you see them. We are in a very competitive district and are so happy with the results,”
Named to the All-District Treble Choir were: Montana Marcus, CHS, Soprano 1; Jadalynn Sellers, AHS, Soprano 1 (first alternate); Kiersten Williams, CHS, Soprano 1 (second alternate); Ella Hicks, AHS, Alto 1; and AmyNicole Lee, AHS, Alto 2.
The All-District-Mixed Choir includes: Esperanza Mireles, CHS, Alto 1; Olivia Groves, AHS, Alto 2; Trinity Meekins, AHS, Alto 2; Aiden Williams, AHS, Bass 2; Dean Anderson, CHS, Bass 1; and Bailey Richardson, AHS, Bass 2 (first alternate).
Students who were selected as alternates will likely attend the February event in Salem.
District VI of the Virginia Choral Directors Association covers school divisions in an area that includes the Alleghany Highlands, the Roanoke Valley, Central Virginia, and Southside Virginia. The Virginia Choral Directors Association is a unit of the Virginia Music Educators Association.
