PTO President Amy Jackson revealed that the “Boo Bash” sponsored by the PTO at Callaghan Elementary School on Thurs., Oct. 27, will help provide students with school supplies.
Jackson remarked, “We basically plan these events for our students and hold fundraisers to support them.”
“This year our PTO provided all supplies for our students such as pencils, paper and glue sticks.”
For the Boo Bash, tables and booths were set up on the school’s track, and Melissa Hilton, State Farm; John Lawson, Image Express; Garlynda’s Linda’s Fancy Feet, the teachers at Callaghan and former Callaghan students who participated in athletics at Alleghany High School all participated in the event.
As for the contest plaque winners for Best Costume, Sophia Palella won 1st place, Christopher Unroe was awarded 2nd place and Willow Kern, took home the 3rd place plaque.
The plaque winners for Best Pumpkin were as follows: Ms. Jaclyn Bray, 4th grade; Gina Middleton, 2nd grade; and Winter Crance, Jr. Kindergarten.
The winning pumpkins were then displayed in the school’s lobby.
Jackson concluded, “We are planning another vendor event for April of 2023.”
Principal Josh Craft said, “After a two-year pause in Halloween festivities at Callaghan School, we were excited to revive it again.”
He continued, “The Callaghan PTO spent many hours planning for this year’s Boo Bash, and I estimate that we had well over 250 folks, including parents, dressed up in costumes.”
“We weren’t sure how many to expect, but the turnout exceeded our expectations,” he added.
Craft revealed,” Something we’ve done at this event that serves as a small fundraiser for the PTO is that each homeroom class designs and decorates a pumpkin the week or so prior to the event”
“Then, those in attendance vote for their favorites by making a small donation in a jar placed in front of each pumpkin, and the class that generates the most donated amount wins,” he concluded.
Callaghan Elementary School houses students in pre-K through 5, and it is located in Alleghany County at 4050 Midland Trail, west of the City of Covington. The current enrollment is 246.
