Verdict For Low Moor Iron Co. In $25,000 Suit
A verdict for the defendant was returned by a jury in Alleghany County circuit court about 2:30 this afternoon in the suit of Mrs. Hannah Gillespie against the Low Moor Iron Company, in which she claimed that her farm and crops had been damaged to the extent of $25,000 by gasses escaping from the sintering plant at Low Moor. The case has been on trial since last Thursday, and was a hard-fought legal battle. The taking of testimony occupied all of Friday, Saturday and yesterday. Mrs. Hannah Gillespie lost.

78 On C.H.S. Honor Roll
Honor roll students at Covington High School were announced from the principal’s office. A total of 78 pupils out of 746 enrolled made the honor roll for the first six weeks of school. Only three students, all freshmen, made the A Honor Roll, an unusually small number in comparison with recent years. An average grade of 95 or better is required.

Residents Given More Moving Time
Residents of Wrightsville may be granted a little extra time before being required to move. Mrs. Celestine McClinton, a resident of Wrightsville, appealed to the chamber of Commerce recently for more time to let the people who had to move find some place to go. Under highway regulations, the property owners or occupants are given 60 days from the time the highway commission notifies them of exercise of option.

City To Review Zoning Lot For Nursing Home
The Covington Planning Commission will consider a rezoning request which would allow the construction of an 80-bed nursing facility in the city. The planning commission will make a recommendation on the rezoning request of the Revercomb Estate, which has been abandoned for some time and was partially burned in 1984.

Bath County High School Host Volleyball Exhibition
In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Bath County High School held a special exhibition volleyball game October 18, following its volleyball match-up with Covington. Members of the BCHS Chargers varsity volleyball team paired up with several of their male classmates for the game. In the photo below, Jonah Ford, right, sends the ball over the net as Tanner Lacks, left, defends. Katie Rice, a senior on the volleyball team, served as a referee for the game.
