Man And Wife Up On “Dry” Charge
Charles Bailey and his wife were tried before Magistrate Hooper yesterday afternoon on a charge of storing liquor to sell. The officers found in the Bailey home, secreted under the floor, two gallons of moonshine, which was produced as evidence. Bailey testified that he was out in a car and when he returned home at about 8 o’clock in the evening the officers were at his house and he was informed they had a search warrant. Bailey said he was greatly surprised when the officers found the whiskey as he did not know it was there. His wife testified she had bought the whiskey unbeknown to her husband for her own use.

Daughter Of A.C. Jack Now Being Sought
Mr. A.C. Jack of 1004 Jackson Street, South Covington, notified town and county officials this morning of the disappearance of his 16-year-old daughter, Juanita Jack, who left home Monday to attend the Covington High School and has not returned since. An investigation by Mr. Jack disclosed that Juanita did not attend school all last week or Monday of this week. She is the eldest of the six Jack children and the only member of the family who has been attending Covington High School.

City Seeks Vote Nov. 6 On Water Bonds
No water meters will be included in the $650,000 bond issue which the city council has virtually authorized and is now working to have it included on the Nov. 6 election ballot. City manager E. L. Thacker explained that since there will be no meters to regulate the use of water, increased capacity is needed to ensure an adequate supply. Thacker noted that the current proposed improvements should meet the city’s water needs until approximately 1985.

Covington To Host Cavalcade Of Bands
The Covington High School Band will host the third annual Covington Cavalcade of Bands at Casey Field Saturday. The top-scoring band of the day will receive the Powell M. Leitch Jr. Memorial award named after the late Pookie Leitch, a friend of the band who was also a member of the school board.
