Alleghany County, Va. (VR) – According to the Alleghany Highlands Public Schools’ Facebook page, “the Alleghany High School was evacuated on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at approximately 1:10 p.m. after a bomb threat was reported to school officials.”

The building was immediately evacuated and law enforcement officials were notified.

All of the other school buildings were placed under shelter in place as a precaution.

The students returned to their classes at Alleghany High School at approximately 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

The shelter that was in place was lifted at 2:30 p.m. at all of the other facilities.

According to the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office and Regional Jail’s Facebook page, the bomb threat was communicated to the students at Alleghany High School by “airdrop.”

The Sheriff’s Office explosives detection K9 didn’t find anything during the search.

These actions were coordinated with law enforcement officials.

Law enforcement cleared the students to return to the premises after no bomb was found.

All of the schools dismissed as scheduled and school activities proceeded as scheduled.

              No disruptions in transportation occurred.

The bomb threat remains under investigation. If anyone has any information, please call 540-965-1770.
