LOW MOOR, VA (VR) — Alleghany and Covington High Schools have announced their athletic ticket procedures and prices for both students and adults.

Individual game ticket prices are set by each school’s athletic district. Alleghany High School and all Three Rivers District opponents will charge $7.00 for varsity football and $5.00 for all other athletic events. Covington High School and all Pioneer District opponents will charge $6.00 for all athletic events.

Funds generated from ticket sales are vital in supporting athletic programs at the high schools in a variety of ways. For example, ticket sales help pay for officials, game workers, paint for lining fields, and the purchase of uniforms and equipment for all athletic teams.

Even with generous support from the Mountaineer Athletic Club and the Covington High School Quarterback Club, the athletic programs will continue to benefit from the support of the community, and ticket and pass sales are an important component of athletic budgets.

Both schools will offer yearlong and individual season passes for both adults and students for admission at their home school. Prior to COVID in 2020, AHS offered season passes to adults and students. The practice was temporarily suspended, however, with the uncertainty of games being played because of COVID.

This year, costs will be $100 for the adult yearlong pass and $40 for an individual season for fall, winter, or spring sports. Student passes will be $50 for the yearlong pass and $20 for an individual season.

Purchasing passes would bring savings to students. For example, students who purchase a fall pass will save on admission to AHS and CHS home football games. Students who attend all four AHS home games this season would pay $7 for a single-game ticket, while the average cost when purchasing a pass would be $5. At CHS, single-game admission would be $6, while a pass would average out at $5 per game. Of course, the cost per event further decreases if students elect to attend additional events for other sports.

Passes can be purchased at both schools but are only valid for the athletic contests for the high school at which they are purchased for regular season home games. Special tournaments and post-season contests are not covered by the passes.

Students enrolled in grades JK-12 in Alleghany Highlands Public Schools are eligible to purchase a student pass but they must be purchased at their home high school and in advance of the desired date of use. It is hoped that the pass will provide value to individuals across the community, including students of all ages in AHPS.

As a special incentive to buy passes early, individuals purchasing any form of pass will be entered into a drawing for tickets to the University of Virginia-Old Dominion University football game at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville on Sept. 17. ALCOVA Mortgage-Alleghany Highlands and University of Virginia Sports Properties have donated 40 tickets to AHPS. The tickets will be awarded in sets of four to 10 persons who win the drawings. Winners will be notified after the drawing is held on Thursday, Sept. 8.

The availability of passes represents a blending of practices used by Alleghany County Public Schools and Covington City Public Schools prior to the merger on July 1, 2022. ACPS most recently charged students for admission except for in-season athletes with no pass discount available, while CCPS did not charge for CHS students. Now all students at both high schools must pay for admission as a blend of the two practices, and passes are available for students of all ages. If a student pass is not pre-purchased, students will pay regular admission at the gate.

For more information, contact AHS at 540-863-1800 or CHS at 540-965-1410.
