“Shiner Is Shot By McManaway
Prohibition Officer McManaway, accompanied by Sheriff Folks, surprised a party of moonshiners on the road between this city and Hot Springs yesterday afternoon. The party was made up of three Stinespring brothers and Hubert Gross. One of the Stinesprings had a rifle, and when McManaway and the sheriff ordered the men to throw up their hands, the man with the rifle started to shoot Officer McManaway, who made a quick draw of his revolver and shot the man through the hip before he was able to shoot. The officers left the men and went for a doctor and also sent for sheriff Dyche and Deputy Sheriff Sam Brown. Upon their return to the scene the injured man had been carried away by his comrades. One of the Stinespring boys was later captured, but the whereabouts of the injured man and the rest of the gang is unknown.
