Twink’s 220 Diner in Iron Gate reopened on June 23 across U.S. 220 from its original location that closed on March 27 in order to facilitate the move.

The new location which is less than 200’ from its original location is 208 5th Street, Iron Gate.

Twink Simmons Kay, a 1979 graduate of Clifton Forge High School, married Danny Kay of Clifton Forge.

Danny is employed by the Brian Center in Fincastle, and he and Twink have two sons.

Hayden Kay, 21, attended the University of Northern Ohio in Lima where he graduated summa cum laude. He is employed at Caterpillar in Salem as a diesel technician.

Forest Kay, 20, graduated from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College just before its name was changed to Mountain Gateway Community College. He too graduated summa cum laude and earned an associate’s degree in business administration. He is preparing to enter Radford University where he plans to major in finance.

As for the move, Twink remarked, “We have added items to our menu, and the prices are comparable to other restaurants in our area.”

With inflation increasing from the time Twink’s 220 Diner closed in March to the time the business reopened in June, Twink now pays more for vegetables, meats, napkins, and other items necessary to operate her business.

Concerning inflation, she noted, “It hasn’t affected our business because our customers are getting high quality.”

Twink concluded, “We’ve doubled the size of our seating, and we’ve added a party room as well.”

She has set her business hours as follows: Tues.-Sat. the diner will be open from 11:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m., and the Sun. hours have been set from noon till 6:00 p.m. The diner will be closed on Mon.

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) -  The Covington VA250 Carnival wrapped up Saturday night with a boom — literally — as a spectacular fireworks display brought the three-day celebration to a close.
The event drew strong crowds throughout the weekend, with Saturday night attracting the largest attendance. Families and visitors filled the carnival grounds, enjoying rides, games, food vendors, and live entertainment. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, screams from thrill-seekers, and the aroma of classic carnival favorites.
The event was well received across the Alleghany Highlands, with many attendees suggesting it should become an annual tradition.
Saturday night's entertainment featured REO Survivor and Co., who delivered a high-energy performance at the amphitheater that kept music fans entertained throughout the evening.
The celebration concluded with a fireworks show that lasted nearly 20 minutes, lighting up the night sky and providing a memorable ending to the weekend festivities.
Covington Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Worley thanked the many volunteers, sponsors, organizations, and community members who helped make the event possible.
It had been a very long time since the Alleghany Highlands hosted an event of this size and scope. Thanks to the efforts of Worley and countless others behind the scenes, the VA250 Carnival proved to be a successful celebration and a fitting tribute as America approaches its 250th birthday.
