One day after knocking off the Waynesboro Generals for the first time in six tries this season, the Covington Lumberjacks (14-17) were back on the diamond on Wednesday with division rival the Harrisonburg Turks.
For the fifth time this season, the Turks defeated the Lumberjacks following their 13-8 victory as the team improved their record to 5-2 against the Lumberjacks.
With the score tied 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning, the Turks exploded for a seven-run inning to take a 8-1 lead. After taking a 2-1 lead, Mitchell Farris (3-for-5) would come to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a bases clearing three-run triple that put the Generals ahead 5-1.
Already leading by seven runs, the Generals would following their seven-run fourth inning by adding four more runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding 12-1 lead. Sever King (1-for-6) highlighted the inning with a two-out two-run double.
After getting back on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lumberjacks add six runs on the scoreboard across the final three innings. Trailing 12-5, the Lumberjacks already with three runs on the scoreboard in the seventh inning, had their rally cut short. With one out and two on the bases, Logan McClure would retire both Cole Ketzner (2-for-5) and Cooper George (1-for-4) to escape the inning without further damage.
Despite the loss, the Lumberjacks out-hit the Turks 17-10, but left just as many base runners as their opponent on base with eight each. The Lumberjacks had a season-high seven batters with two or more hits.
Bradke Lohry (3-for-4) led the way for the Lumberjacks with three hits. Meanwhile, Carlos Castillo (2-for-5) was one of five batters with RBI’s for the Lumberjacks as he led the team with three. Ketzner added his second home run of the season for his only RBI in the game. His home run put the Lumberjacks ahead early 1-0 in the second inning.

It took six games, but the Lumberjacks finally defeated the Generals after holding them off on Tuesday following their 6-5 victory.
With the score tied at 4-4 in the top of the ninth inning, Generals retired the first two batters in the inning before the Lumberjacks put two runners on base including the go-ahead run 90 feet away from scoring on third base. Due to a fielding error by the Generals first basemen, Jordan Mccladdie (0-for-0) would come in to score for the Lumberjacks to put the team ahead. Michael Pavelchak (2-for-4) would follow with a two-out RBI single to put the Lumberjacks ahead 6-4.
Trailing by two runs, the Generals made things even more interesting as they cut the lead down to one run on a one-out TJ Clarkson (2-for-4) solo home run. Despite giving up the home run to Clarkson, Nathaniel Gorczyca (W, 2-3) would settle down and secure the final two outs of the game, including getting Jalen Vasquez (1-for-5) to fly out to end the game.
In the win the Lumberjacks out-hit the Generals 10-9. Pavelchak and Lohry (2-for-5) led the way for the Lumberjacks with two hits each. The Lumberjacks had four players with an RBI.
Making his first start in his sixth appearance of the season, Trevor Wall, finished with a quality start for the Lumberjacks as he allowed two runs on five hits, while walking five and striking out one in five innings. Wall was relieved with the Lumberjacks ahead 4-2.
The Generals looked as if they were heading towards another victory over the Lumberjacks after they scored two quick first inning runs. The Lumberjacks after being held scoreless in the first three innings would get one on the scoreboard in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth inning to take the lead at 4-2.
