Eight Boys Save Family Of Five
A Norfolk mother and her five small children were alive today by virtue of the instant action and heroism of eight boys. These boys, seeing the home of Mrs. Juanita Dyer in flames, leaped to the rescue of the burning building and bore the helpless children to the street below. Firemen, answering the alarm sent in by one of the boys, reached the scene in time to carry the hysterical mother forcibly from the second story of her home. The boys formed a line and passed the children out one at a time.

Mrs. Hepler In Realms Of Rest
Mrs. Thelma Alexander Hepler, wife of Mr. Eugene T. Hepler and daughter of Mr. & Mrs. George R. Alexander, of South Lexington Street, passed away in Grace Hospital, Richmond, Sunday night at 10:30, following an operation. Mrs. Hepler’s death came as a distinct shock to her family and friends here, as she was reported as doing nicely a short time before her death occurred. The body has been brought to Covington and funeral services will be held from Epworth M.E. Church of which Mrs. Hepler was a member.

Covington Youth To Stage Bloodmobile Parade Here
The Covington youth will highlight their bloodmobile campaign tomorrow with the annual Youth Bloodmobile Parade and a radio talent show. The parade will begin at 4 p.m. at the Armory. Saturday night the youth will take over the Fabulous Fifties Show on WKEY and present a radio talent show beginning at 7 p.m. Spotlight Extras for the show will include Allan Tucker, from the Columbus Boys Choir School; Bill Lipes from the Peabody Conservatory, J.E. Whitehead, Judy Irvine, and George Hill all of whom will sing.

Chris Guth Hurls one-hitter In Western Auto Win
Chris Guth tossed a one-hitter to lead Western Auto to a 19-0 shutout over Kiwanis in Senior Little League action Friday, while State Bank and VFW were rained out for the second straight time. In the third, Cory Mann spoiled Guth’s no-hit bid with a single to center. Guth had a near-perfect day on the mound fanning six and walking one.

Local Recovery Efforts Making Progress
Residents of the Alleghany Highlands are still digging out from under the mess left behind from the super derecho storm system that tore through the area Friday evening. “We’re back to normal,” said LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany CEO Greg Madsen in a telephone interview this morning. The situation at the hospital certainly wasn’t normal in the aftermath of the storm. “This biggest issue was managing the large number of patients with the number of staff we had.”
