BATH COUNTY, Va. (VR) – Bath County used a last-minute match play scrimmage Tuesday at the Old Course at The Homestead to get some competition in before the district tournament, coming away with a 31-23 victory over East Mont.
The match featured six head-to-head nine-point matches, with the points from each match added to determine the team winner.
Draven Whitmore led the way for Bath County with a standout 39, the lowest nine-hole score recorded by a Charger during the 2025 or 2026 seasons. Whitmore’s 39 was also the first sub-40 round recorded by the team during that span.
Whitmore defeated Nate Ollis, 8-1, in the fourth match.
Raylon Connor opened the top six competition with a 48-49 victory over Atticus Stauffer, earning a 5.5-3.5 win in match play. Akio Long followed with a 47-57 victory over Graydon Lawson, 7-2.
Gabe Smith defeated Zachariah Foster, 55-57, by a 5-4 margin, while Hunter Neuhaus edged Aydin Auldridge, 63-66, 5-4.
In the sixth match, Bath County’s Amya Newcomb made her high school debut. The No. 6 seed carded a 63, the fifth-lowest score for the Chargers, and tied Owen Lafon in match play, 4.5-4.5.
The six matches gave Bath County the 31-23 team victory.
Bath County also used the scrimmage to give practice players an opportunity to compete in the match play format. Cullen Smith defeated Eilly Harrison, 53-63, 5-4, while Mason Henderson defeated Adrianna Hernandez, 55-62, 5-4.
Individual competition also included a long-drive contest, with Lafon hitting a 240-yard drive on No. 3. Harrison recorded the longest putt on No. 1 at 6 feet, 4 inches, edging Stauffer’s 6-foot, 3-inch putt. Ollis was closest to the pin on No. 18 at 8 feet, 5 inches.
