              Alleghany Highlands Schools offering Summer 'HILL' Academies

              LOW MOOR (VR) — Alleghany Highlands Public Schools will offer Summer “HILL” (High Intensity Learning Loss) Academies for all current students of Grades JK-12.

              The learning institutes will be held at Mountain View Elementary School and Sharon Elementary for students in Grades JK-5 and at Clifton Middle School for grades 6-8 running from July 5 to July 21, 2022. Students who attend Callaghan Elementary School will be served at Mountain View Elementary School. In Covington, the learning institute will be held at Edgemont Primary School and Jeter-Watson Intermediate School for grades JK-7. Classes will be from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday the first week, and Monday-Thursday the remaining weeks, with no attendance on Fridays.

              Students in grades 9-12 will be attending Alleghany High school from July 5 through July 29, 2022. In Covington, students in grades 8-12 will attend Covington High School. Classes will be extended one hour the first week (8 a.m.-2 p.m.). Every remaining week will be from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., and every Friday virtual.

              Bus service will be provided to students in Alleghany County. In Covington, bus service will be provided to students who attend Edgemont Primary School and Jeter-Watson. No bus service will be provided at Covington High School.

              Parents of Covington students who will utilize bus services were contacted this week by the Transportation Department and were given designated times in regard to bus routes. All students should be at the designated bus stop 10 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.

              For specific transportation-related questions, contact the Transportation Department at (540) 965-1824.
