Jennifer Franson Hubbard has been helping Gerald Franson, her father, at Gerald E. Franson Insurance Agency, Inc. since she was a senior at Covington High School in 1996.
Hubbard, a mother of 24-year-old twins, Hannah Hubbard and Trey Hubbard, said, “After I’d get out of school, I would go to the office and do filing and answer the telephone.”
After graduating from CHS in 1996, she married Thomas Hubbard, Jr., a 1994 graduate of Alleghany High School, in 1999.
Jennifer recalled, “I took classes at DSLCC and attended insurance classes.”
By 1998, she had completed the required classes, and she passed her state board exam, qualifying her to sell insurance alongside her father.
Hannah is a nurse at Springs Nursing Home in Bath County, and she is employed by Bath County Community Hospital as well.
Trey works at Cucci’s. He hopes to earn his associate’s degree in electrical instrumentation at Mountain Gateway Community College, the new name for Dabney S. Lancaster Community College where he has taken courses.
Gerald remarked, “It wasn’t just me that has made the business successful.”
The business is multi-faceted in that the company handles house arrest ankle bracelets, provides bail bonds and as a general insurance agency sells a variety of policies such as life, auto, health, flood and motorcycle.
Some of the companies that the insurance agency can write policies for are Allstate, Penn National, Liberty, Safeco, Progressive, State Auto and Mercury.
Gerald concluded, “It has been Jen and our staff that has made our business successful.”
Jennifer echoed her father’s words, “We have a great team, and without the teamwork we have here, we couldn’t get the job done.”
Located across the street from the U.S. Post Office in Covington, the spacious agency accommodates Miranda Jackson, the receptionist; Sarah Broughman, accounting; Toni Anderson, accounting; Emily Rickett, insurance agent; Brooke Hiner, insurance agent; Sandy Adkins, insurance agent; Jennifer, insurance agent, bondsperson, and ankle bracelet salesperson; and Gerald, insurance agent and owner.
As for the number of times a person has destroyed one of the ankle bracelets, Jennifer recalled, “We have only had one person destroy an ankle bracelet during the 20 years we’ve provided the service.”
Jennifer concluded, “Dad and I have been in the bonding service for 20 plus years.”
Franson Insurance Agency recently moved its office from 101 N. Maple Ave. in Covington to its new location at 221 N. Monroe Avenue.
