Daniel Grizzard, a graduate student at Virginia Tech, has returned to serve as the project coordinator for Give Local Alleghany Highlands 2022.
Born in Loudoun County in May of 1998, he graduated from Freedom High School in South Riding, Va. in 2016.
Grizzard earned a bachelor’s of science degree in sustainable bio materials in the spring of 2020 from Virginia Tech.
After graduating, he became a Fellow with The Alleghany Foundation in July of 2020.
Mary Donnan, executive director of The Alleghany Foundation, said, “During the pandemic, there were many demands for services from nonprofits, and individuals were looking for ways to help out.”
“Daniel did a terrific job identifying the Giving Day Model and developing the procedures to launch the first one here,” Donnan remarked.
The Giving Day Model was implemented in May and June of 2021, and Daniel served as project coordinator for Give Local Alleghany Highlands.
He said, “I’m halfway through my studies to earn my master’s degree, and the classes I’m taking are helping me learn about economic development.”
The courses he has completed at Virginia Tech have helped him gain insight into how to help people best utilize materials around them.
“I’ve learned how to help people in rural Virginia and West Virginia best utilize the resources around them,” he revealed.
As for activities outside of his pursuit to complete his studies, he enjoys playing soccer and caring for his two Labrador retrievers, one blonde and one black.
Serving for the second year as project coordinator, Grizzard has set up Give Local Alleghany Highlands 2022 for The Alleghany Foundation.
The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism is hosting the event in conjunction with The Alleghany Foundation.
Ingevity has joined the cause to help local nonprofits by sponsoring a “Power Hour.”
Grizzard is the contact employ, and he operates the computer program that registers and tabulates donations received in order to determine the winners of the $35,000 in prize money that will be distributed to the nonprofit organizations based upon their performances.
Those who wish to give to a local nonprofit organization competing between May 24 and June 7, may do so online by visiting givelocalah.com where they can click on “donate” and use credit cards or debit cards to contribute.
