Just hours before stepping on the baseball mound, Levi Dressler (W, 2-for-3), had been named Mr. CHS 2022.
Several hours later, Dressler, was on the mound one last time at Casey Field as a member of the Covington Cougars baseball team while dawning the blue and gold colors.
After falling short of the Pioneer District Tournament Championship game, losing 9-6 against Parry McCluer days prior, backed by Dressler on the mound, the Cougars defeated the Craig County Rockets in the third place game 11-1.
On the mound, Dressler, was masterful as he held the Rockets to two hits in a five-inning complete game. Dressler, gave up one run, while walking four and struck out one dozen batters. At the plate, Dressler, helped his cause by collecting two hits and one RBI. Dressler had the Cougars lone extra base hit of the game, an RBI double that came in the third inning.
While Dressler was phenomenal on the mound and helped himself out at the plate, the Cougars other seniors, Ashton Cook (1-for-2), Brady Howard (1-for-3), and Conlan Staunton (0-for-2), all went out victorious in there final games as a Cougar, while each having a productive performance as well with each getting on base and scoring runs.
The Cougars did only collect seven total hits in the win and finished with two players have a multiple-hit performance. It was Luke Conner (1-for-2), who had a game-high two RBI’s for the Cougars. Cook and Hayden Rodgers (0-for-4) each added RBI’s.
Zachary Peters (1-for-2) and Andrew Duncan (1-for-3), each had singles for the Rockets, while Dylan Crawford (0-for-3) had the lone Rockets RBI.
It was a close game up until the fifth inning. The Cougars had a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning where the Cougars would end the game with a seven-run inning. The only base hit resulting in RBI in the inning came on Cook’s RBI single that closed the game out. The other six runs in the inning for the Cougars came via a walk with the bases loaded, fielding errors, and sacrifice flyouts.
The Cougars finished their season with a record of 10-11.
