Alleghany Will Receive $314,705 For Good Roads
More than $10,000,000 will be turned over to the 100 counties in Virginia during the next eight years for the construction of “feeder” roads to the state highway system, according to the estimates of E. Lee Moore, State Auditor of Virginia, of the amount of revenue that will be raised from the 1-cent gasoline tax for county road building in this state.
Youth Of U.S. To Train In ’23
“In time of peace, prepare for war.” With this spirit more than 200,000 young Americans will enter military training camps throughout the nation in 1923, beginning in June, to train themselves for the moment when their Government may again have to call them to arms in a great military emergency. The series of training camps this year is the third of its kind since the summer of 1921.

Westvaco Will Build New Plant Here.

Plans to build a paperboard converting plant in Covington were announced today by Carl O. Skoggard, manager of the West Virginia Pulp & Paper Company’s mill here. The Plant will manufacture polyethylene-coated paper and paperboard. Preliminary construction started several days ago at the new plant site on the former Westvaco Golf Course area.

City Orders Property Owner To Correct Chemical Spill.

The owner of a small apartment house to which a hazardous chemical leak was traced back in early April has been ordered by the city of Covington to correct the problem with a schedule on the owner’s course of action to be submitted to the city manager by Thursday. City and state agencies have conducted an investigation into the waste material coming from underneath the apartments, formerly part of the Parrish House and grounds.

Railway Heritage Festival On Track For Sunday

The fourth annual C&O Railway Heritage Festival will be held Saturday in conjunction with the seventh annual Magic in the Mountains Festival in Clifton Forge. The festival will take place at the C&O Railway Heritage Center, 705 E. Main St., from 10 am to 4 pm
