COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Community leaders representing Alleghany County, Covington, Clifton Forge, and Iron Gate joined together to proclaim April 19–25, 2026, as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, recognizing the lasting impact of crime and the importance of strong support systems. The proclamation honors survivors, raises awareness of victims’ rights, and reaffirms a shared commitment to justice, dignity, and healing throughout the Alleghany Highlands. Representing the Alleghany Highlands Victim/Witness Assistance Program were Alexis Ballard and Abigail Shiflett, highlighting the vital role of local advocates in supporting victims and survivors.
