Several churches marked Good Friday with a local tradition, called The Way of the Cross. Pastors that make up the Eastern Alleghany Christian Ministerial Association met at First Baptist Church, Clifton Forge, to lead the annual Way of the Cross procession down Main Street to the Central United Methodist Church in celebration of Good Friday.
A small group in the procession carried the cross down Church Street, as the entire group sang hymns, and turned left onto B Street. The crowd then turned right onto Main Street, ending the procession at the Central United Methodist Church, at Main and Commercial Streets, where the cross was draped in black on planted into the ground.
The annual walk ended with a service and more singing at the Central United Methodist Church.
Leading the procession were Father Tom Collins; Rev. David Hanks, pastor, Iron Gate Baptist Church, Rev. Paul Brokaw, EACMA President and pastor, Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church; and Bishop Alfred Dearing, pastor, Come As You Are Ministries, Clifton Forge.
