Alexander Hall and Nick Geopper provided a one-two punch for Team USA by winning gold and silver in the free-ski slopestyle to keep the USA in 5th place in the Olympics’ medal race.
Team USA has won eight gold medals to trail Norway has won 14 gold and Germany that has won 10.
In the overall medal hunt, Norway leads with 14-7-8, for 29; ROC is in second with 5-9-12, for 26; Germany has 10-7-5, for 22; and Canada has 4-6-12 to tie Germany.
Julia Marino won the first medal for Team USA on Sat., but it was not gold. The first gold was brought home by Lindsey Jacobellis who slid her way to the top spot in the snowboard cross event.
Team USA remains in the running to win the most gold after having won eight gold medals, six behind Norway and two behind Germany. The USA’s record is 8-8-5, for 21; four ahead of Japan, 3-5-9 for 17, and Austria, 6-7-4 for 17.
Italy holds down 8th place with 2-7-7, for 16, and Sweden and the Netherlands are tied for 9th with 15 apiece.
The Netherlands has 6-5-4, for 15, and Sweden has 7-4-4, for 15.
France is in 11th place with 4-7-2, for 13, and Switzerland is the only other country with 10 or more total medals won. Switzerland has a 6-1-5 record for 12.
Jaelin Kauf won a silver medal in the women’s moguls finals, and Jessie Diggins took bronze in the women’s individual sprint cross-country skiing, the first woman to ever win in that event for the USA.
Nathan Chen won gold for Team USA in men’s single figure skating, and Chloe Kim took home the gold in the halfpipe event.
Ashley Caldwell, Chris Lillis, and Justin Schoenefeld won gold in aerial freestyle skiing, the first Americans to do so since 1998.
Erin Jackson because the first black woman to win gold for the USA in the 500-meter speed skating.
Megan Nick won a bronze medal in the women’s aerials on Monday, and Kallie Humphries became the first-ever U.S. woman to win gold in the women’s mono-bob event.
Humphries’ teammate, Elana Meyers, won the silver medal.
In the ice dance event, Madison Hubbell and Zach Donohue landed the bronze for Team USA.
Ryan Cochran-Siegle was a medalist in the Men’s Super-G on Tuesday.
The USA’s men’s speed skating team took bronze and Team USA won both the gold and silver in the men’s free-ski slopestyle.
Brittany Bowe won bronze for Team USA in the 1000 meter speed skating race.
The USA’s women’s hockey team had to settle for silver after losing in the finals to Canada by a 3-2 score.
With the Winter Olympics ending on Feb. 20, Team USA will need another miracle on ice to catch Norway in the race to see which country comes away with the most medals.
