CLIFTON FORGE—The Virginia Opry will induct members of Bill Pinkney’s Original Drifters before the “Be My Valentine Show” prior to the famous group’s performance at The Historic Masonic Theatre on Sat., Feb. 5, at 7:00 p.m.
On March 31, 2020, Governor Ralph S. Northam signed “Senate Bill 283” filed by Senator R. Creigh Deeds that passed the Virginia Senate 40-0 and the Virginia House of Delegates by a 93-6 vote that designates The Virginia Opry as the Commonwealth of Virginia’s official Opry.
M. Ray Allen, director of The Virginia Opry, remarked, “Bill Pinkney’s Original Drifters have performed for Appalfolks of America Association on three previous occasions, but the Feb. 5 performance will be the first for the Drifters as members of The Virginia Opry.”
Bill Pinkney’s Original Drifters and its band members will join 43 other members of The Virginia Opry, and the band will bring the total number of bands in The Virginia Opry to 10.
The famous group has been inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and continues to tour the nation despite COVID-19 that forced AAA to postpone the Aug. 2020 show that had been scheduled at The Historic Masonic Theatre.
Allen continued, “The tickets are on sale now at The Historic Masonic Theatre for this rescheduled show that AAA had scheduled as part of the celebration for The Virginia Opry being designated as Virginia’s official Opry.”
Sponsors for the show include Hunt Brothers Pizza and 103.5 Big Country, the Radio Home of The Virginia Opry.
Alfred “Mustard” Dearing, Sr. will also be inducted as a member of The Virginia Opry and serve as emcee for the “Be My Valentine Show.”
Tickets may be purchased online at www.historicmasonictheatre.com or by visiting the box office at 510 Main Street in Clifton Forge or by calling (540) 862-5655. Prices depending upon seating locations range from $20 to $35 per ticket.
