CLIFTON FORGE – The Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Educational Foundation has announced the availability of the Virginia Firefighters Foundation Scholarship.
The scholarship was established in 2001 by the Virginia Firefighters Foundation to provide tuition assistance to Virginia firefighters or their dependents who wish to study at DSLCC.
According to Donna Vaughn, scholarship chairman, initial disbursements were made to colleges in the southwest region of the state and DSLCC was one of the first award recipients.
“We are delighted to be able to offer this scholarship opportunity to area residents who are either firefighters of dependents of a Virginia firefighter,” said Vaughn. It helps, in a very small way, to repay these brave men and women for their care of and sacrifice to the communities in which they live.”
The applicant must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
•Must have applied for admission to Dabney S. Lancaster Community College
•Be a firefighter or the dependent of a Virginia firefighter and have a high school diploma (minimum 2.25 GPA) or GED Certificate

The scholarship is granted for one year and applies to tuition and book assistance. The application also may be filled out online and printed and mailed or hand delivered to the DSLCC Educational Foundation.
Incorporated in 1980, the DSLCC Educational Foundation’s primary focus is to keep education affordable through the awarding of student scholarships. Since its founding, the non-profit organization has awarded nearly $1 million in scholarships to area residents.
The foundation also supports the college through the purchase of technological and classroom equipment, and the awarding of faculty study grants.
Governed by a volunteer board of community leaders, foundation activities are centered on adding funds for student aid, increasing the endowment and promoting goodwill in the community.
The generous investments made by individuals, businesses, and organizations allows the college and educational foundation to meet the educational challenges of the 21st century as they encourage a regional vitality powered by an educated citizenry and workforce.
