GREENVILLE – Covington’s Leteashia Clarke is continuing to have a breakout track season as she broke Covington’s girl’s high jump school-record yesterday at the Augusta County Relays at Riverheads High School.
Clarke broke Beverly Tyree Angell’s mark of 5-2 set in 1978 with a leap of 5-3. The jump gave her one of her three first place finishes on the day.
Clarke also took first in the girl’s long jump (15-9½) and in the triple jump (32-3½). Clarke added a fifth place finish in the 100-meter dash, while Brittany Keyser was sixth.
Sister’s Keisha and Kathy Tyson finished second and third in the girl’s shot put. Keisha took second with a state qualifying throw of 34-11, while Kathy had a throw of 31-3.
Covington’s 4×100-meter relay team of Keyser, Megan Jefferson, Sa’Mone Moore and Clarke finished fourth.
“We had a great evening at the Augusta Relays. The girls did a great job and as coaches we really appreciate these athletes giving up their Saturday’s to compete,” said CHS girls coach Mary Tyree. “With the rain out on Saturday, we had to come back on Monday and it was well worth the trip.
“Congratulations to Leteashia and Keisha on their super efforts,” added Tyree.
Covington returns to the track tomorrow at James River.
