A Covington man was sentenced to 15 years in prison Tuesday on charges related to the production of child pornography and aggravated sexual battery of a minor.

Gregory Charles McMullen, 65, of Horse Mountain View, was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Circuit Court Judge Malfourd W. Trumbo suspended 25 years and ordered McMullen to pay $5,000 restitution.

McMullen will be placed on supervised probation for 10 years after he is released from prison.

He was arrested Jan. 24 and charged with 16 felony counts of producing child pornography and one count of indecent liberties with a minor under the age of 15. In April, more charges were filed against McMullen – two counts of aggravated sexual battery of a victim under the age of 13.

On June 15, McMullen pled guilty to one count of child pornography and one count of aggravated sexual battery of a minor under the age of 13. Ed Stein, commonwealth’s attorney for Alleghany County and Covington, agreed to nolle prosequi 15 of the child pornography charges, along with the charge of indecent liberties with a minor and one of the aggravated sexual battery charges.

Authorities say the offenses occurred in April 2010.

McMullen was arrested following an investigation by the Salem Division of Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Since his arrest, McMullen has been held without bond at the Alleghany Regional Jail in Covington.
