Covington Paperworkers Union Local 675 will sponsor annual Labor Day activities Monday, Sept. 6.
The festivities will kick off with the annual parade through downtown Covington, beginning at noon.
The parade will feature local dignitaries, union hall of fame inductees and their families, automobiles, floats, marching units and animals.
Following the parade, activities will shift to the Jackson River Sport Complex, with opening ceremonies at 2 p.m.
Dignitaries that have committed to appear during the opening ceremonies include U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher, D-9th; Virginia Sen. Creigh Deeds, D-Hot Springs; and Virginia Del. Jim Shuler, D-Blacksburg. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1033 of Covington will raise the flag.
Entertainment will be featured at the River Rock amphitheater at the complex.
Entertainment will begin with clogging by the Kountry Kickers, followed by the Locust Mountain Boys at 3 p.m., DynaFlow at 5 p.m. and Seven Mile Ford at 7 p.m.
From 2 to 6 p.m., there will also be activities and entertainment for kids.
Concessions will be sold throughout the day and persons planning to attend should bring a lawn chair and a blanket.
At the conclusion of the entertainment, there will be a 50-50 drawing and a gun raffle drawing for a Marlin XL7 .30-06 bolt action rifle and a Marlin semi-automatic .22 LR.
