ASHWOOD – Max Mitchell of Roanoke has been awarded the Best in Show award of the 46th annual Bath County Art Show which opened Sunday at Valley Elementary School with 694 works by 259 artists.
The annual art show is sponsored by the Bath County Art Association and funds raised by the event are used to support arts projects in Bath County.
The show continues daily this week from 1 to 5 p. m. at the school ending Sunday afternoon. There is no admission charge.
This year’s show is dedicated to Hugh Gwin who died earlier this year and served on the art group’s committee for many years as well as several other volunteer organizations in Bath County.
Judge for this year’s show was Johanna Halford-MacLeod, executive director at Franz and Virginia Bader Fund, Washington D. C.
She commented “In the house of art there are many mansions, and the variety of styles is a credit to the artists and organizers of the Bath County Art Show. I would like to commend the attractive hang of the exhibition. It was a pleasure to judge each work on its own merits in comparison with other images in the same genre, and to discover artists who have moved beyond their usual boundaries. Let me end by saying that there were so many things, all quite different, that I wanted to take home.”
