State Parks Offering Veterans Day Programs

Virginia State Parks will offer all guests free park admission and special programming on Veterans Day, Tuesday.

Douthat State Park in Millboro will offer an opportunity to make thank you cards for our Veteran’s starting at 11 a.m. at the Lakeview Restaurant.

Stick around until 1 p.m. to make a paracord bracelet showing support to the military when worn. This is a free event and children are welcome on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Douthat is located at 14239 Douthat State Park Road, Millboro. For information call 540-862-8100.

James River State Park in Gladstone will offer a wagon ride to the Tye Overlook for free to celebrate the brave men and women who have served their country. This wagon ride is open to the general public and will be offered from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting at the Canoe Livery inside James River State Park. James River State Park is located at 104 Green Hill Drive, Gladstone. For information  call 434-933-4355.

Shenandoah River State Park in Bentonville will be working with Operation Gratitude to send personal cards to deployed soldiers or wounded warriors through care packages.

Come to the park any time from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to make a card or drop off your letter at the visitor center any time before Nov. 11. Shenandoah River State Park is located at 350 Daughters of Stars Drive, Bentonville. For information call 540-622-6840.

Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane the Friends of the park, and On the Run Sports will be hosting a 5K Trail Run/Walk through the park – Run For Warriors starting at 10 a.m. Get out and run or walk for a cause.

There is still time to register by visiting otrsports.com. The cost is $30 per runner and great prizes will be awarded.

The funds raised will support the Wounded Warrior Project. For information call 592-3556. Sky Meadows State Park is located at 11012 Edmonds Lane, Delaplane.
