RICHMOND, VA (VR) – Several HCA Virginia hospitals have earned multiple
2027 Specialty Excellence Awards from Healthgrades, a leading resource consumers use
to find a hospital or doctor. The awards recognize hospitals demonstrating superior clinical
performance across specialties including orthopedic surgery, joint replacement, cardiac
care, surgical care and gastrointestinal care, among others.
The recognitions distinguish Chippenham Hospital, Johnston-Willis Hospital, Henrico
Doctors’ Hospital, Parham Doctors’ Hospital, Retreat Doctors’ Hospital, LewisGale
Medical Center, LewisGale Hospital Alleghany, LewisGale Hospital Montgomery and
Reston Hospital Center as leading hospitals for specialty care, with multiple facilities
ranking among the top 10 or 15 percent of hospitals nationwide in specific specialties.
HCA Virginia hospitals also earned some of the highest rankings in the commonwealth for
surgical and orthopedic care. Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, including data from Parham
Doctors’ Hospital and Retreat Doctors’ Hospital, ranked No. 1 in Virginia for
orthopedic surgery and No. 2 for surgical care, while Reston Hospital Center ranked
No. 1 for surgical care and No. 2 for orthopedic surgery. LewisGale Medical Center also
earned the No. 3 ranking in Virginia for orthopedic surgery. Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals were
additionally ranked No. 5 in Virginia for cardiac care.
The 2027 Specialty Excellence recognitions reflect HCA Virginia’s continued commitment
to providing high-quality, specialized care and distinguish its hospitals as leaders in clinical
excellence. Healthgrades evaluated outcomes at more than 4,500 hospitals across more
than 30 common procedures and conditions for these awards.

The impact of choosing a high-performing hospital is significant. Healthgrades’ 2027
analysis revealed that if all hospitals performed at the level of five-star-rated facilities
during the 2023–2025 study period, 227,229 lives could have been saved and 158,138
complications could have been avoided.
