COVINGTON, Va. (VR) –  Four veterans were honored Saturday morning at the Covington VFW with the presentation of Quilts of Valor, recognizing their service and sacrifice to the nation.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation was established in 2003 by Catherine Roberts while her son, Nat, was deployed in Iraq. The idea came following a dream in which a struggling service member found comfort and hope after being wrapped in a quilt.

That dream became the foundation of a nationwide program dedicated to honoring and comforting veterans and service members through handmade quilts.

As of October 31, 2026, the foundation reported that 463,129 individuals had been honored since the program began. Of those, 27,150 were recognized during 2026, including 2,697 in October alone.

The Virginian Review was on hand for Saturday’s presentation at the Covington VFW and will have additional coverage of the ceremony and its recipients shortly.
