ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (VR) – Hollins University volleyball closed out a 3-0 week Saturday with a pair of straight-set victories, sweeping Mid-Atlantic Christian and Johnson & Wales in a tri-match in Roanoke.
The Green and Gold opened the day with a 25-9, 25-18, 25-22 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian before defeating Johnson & Wales, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20.
Against MACU, Hollins hit .257 and held a 34-11 advantage in kills. Bella Schultz and Annabelle Kemper led the attack with nine kills apiece, while Laken Tingler finished with 13 assists and six service aces. Evelyn Harris added a match-high 15 assists.
Norah Madrey contributed three kills, three blocks and four aces, while Schultz led the defense with eight digs.
Hollins carried that momentum into the second match. After falling behind 10-9 in the opening set, the Green and Gold scored five straight points and never surrendered the lead.
Schultz’s serving helped Hollins jump to a 5-0 start in the second set, while a 9-2 run in the third allowed the Green and Gold to pull away for the sweep.
Cassidy Henderson led all players with 11 kills, followed by Abby Neel with nine and Kemper with seven. Tingler handed out 16 assists and added two aces, giving her a team-high 20 for the season. Harris finished with 12 assists.
Meredith Crawley led Hollins with 11 digs and added six assists, while Henderson and Aliyah Lightsey each recorded four blocks.
The victories move Hollins to 4-10 overall and complete a 3-0 week following the program’s first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win in nearly seven years.
