Lowman Leads Richmond at Richmond Invitational

Late Tuesday night, the Virginia Beach Fire Department was dispatched to the Virginia Aquarium’s Darden Marine Animal Conservation Center (DMACC) after a fire and significant amount of smoke set off the fire alarms. MECHANICSVILLE, Va. (VR) – Freshman Kiera Lowman led the Richmond women’s cross country team Friday at the Richmond Invitational at Pole Green Park, finishing 11th overall in the 6K with a time of 22:13.9.

Lowman was the first Richmond runner across the finish line as the Spiders tied George Washington for second place with 77 points among 14 teams. Elon won the women’s race with 42 points.

Fellow freshman Ella Solorzano followed Lowman, placing 13th in 22:15.4. Ruby Frazier finished 20th in 22:33.1, Estella Bruneau was 21st in 22:33.5 and Lily Strebel placed 24th in 22:40.5, giving Richmond five runners in the top 25.

The Richmond men finished eighth in a 16-team field with 205 points. Eric Scully led the Spiders in the 8K, placing 29th in 25:58.2, followed by Bennett Wright in 42nd at 26:21.8.

Ryan Gibson finished 45th in 26:30.6, Josh Gray was 46th in 26:32.1 and Carter Bruns crossed the finish line 52nd in 26:40.0. High Point won the men’s race with 55 points.
