BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (VR) – The Radford men’s soccer program got an equalizer early in an intense match at Gardner-Webb Saturday night, but ultimately came up on the wrong end of a 5-1 final.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The goal was Hugo Roman’s second of the season, his first since scoring in the season opener at William & Mary.
- While the shot battle was closer at 13-8 in Gardner-Webb’s favor, the Runnin’ Bulldogs had a large advantage with 12 of their shots coming on goal.
- Owen Gaisford tallied a team high three shots with one on goal while Roman finished with two.
PLAY BY PLAY
The scoring began with haste in Saturday night’s match as the hosts Gardner-Webb would jump ahead 1-0 just five minutes in. Radford would regroup well with an equalizer just 13 minutes later. Roman would strike for Radford’s lone goal in the match with a solid look to the top right corner of the net to make it a 1-1 game in the 19th minute.
Gardner-Webb would regain their lead just a few minutes later, though, breaking through for a 2-1 lead and adding another goal in the 26th minute to bring their lead to 3-1 at halftime.
The Highlanders had good pressure out of the halftime break as Jayce Pagano, Roman and Noel Zimbeva all got off good looks on goal. The Runnin’ Bulldogs would add to their lead unfortunately with strikes in the 64th and 76th minutes to solidify the eventual 5-1 finish.

Radford is back in Cupp Stadium this upcoming Wednesday, September 30th for another round of nonconference action against ETSU. Action is set for a 2 p.m. start on ESPN+.
