BLACKSBURG, Va. (VR) – The Bath County Chargers closed out the regular season in dominant fashion Wednesday at The Hill in Blacksburg, posting their lowest team score of the district season, a 180, to finish with a perfect 12-0 district record.
Atticus Stauffer led Bath County with a 44, followed by Michael Keyes and Akio Long with 45s and Zachariah Foster with a 46. The four counting scores gave the Chargers their 180 team total.
Draven Whitmore shot a 52, while Aydin Auldridge finished with a 68.
Aubree Frazier turned in the day’s low round, firing a one-over-par 36 for Narrows. Hayden Clark followed with a 49, Cooper Sutphin shot 52 and Adalie Clark finished at 54 as Narrows posted a 191 team score.
Eastern Montgomery finished third at 204, led by Raylon Conner’s 45. Gabe Smith shot 50, Nate Ollies 52 and Adriana Hernandez 57. Craig County finished at 221, led by Ryan Boyer’s 45.
The golfers battled hot conditions while making two trips up The Hill. Despite the recent drought, the course remains in excellent condition and will provide the setting for the district championship tournament in a few weeks.
The round also marked the first time this Bath County team had posted four scores in the 40s in the same match.
After the final scorecard was counted more than 10 times by three players and two coaches, the Chargers celebrated their undefeated regular season with mountain and Virginia Tech views in the background and a spray of cold, carbonated water.
Bath County now turns its attention to the district championship.
