COVINGTON, VA (VR) – The Alleghany Highlands Regional Library is proud to announce a special historical exhibition celebrating the life and career of Jim “Jim Bob” Lemon, a Covington native and prominent Major League Baseball (MLB) player. The exhibit will open to the public on September 1 and remain on display through mid-January 2027.
This exclusive collection offers a glimpse of this local sports hero’s legacy. The items have been generously lent to the library by his son, Joe Lemon and family in remembrance of Jim, who passed away May 14, 2006 at the age of 78.
Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to view an assortment of artifacts, including autographed gear, newspaper articles, photographs and collectibles. “We are incredibly grateful to Joe Lemon and the entire Lemon family for sharing these treasured pieces of sports history with the community,” said Lisa Sponaugle, Library Director. “Jim Bob Lemon is a true point of pride for Covington and the entire Alleghany Highlands. This
display honors his athletic achievements and connects our community with a vital piece of our local heritage.”
