WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Hokies secured a 3-1 win on the road against William & Mary on Thursday night.
Senior captain Anna Weir scored all three goals for Tech, making her only the 15th Hokie to record a hat trick in program history.
How It Happened
The scoring started early from a well-worked build-up by the Hokies in the 10th minute. Hannah Pachan and Peyton May began the sequence in Tech’s defensive third before May flicked the ball forward to Eliana Salama. Salama took the ball to the half-line before slotting Anna Weir past the William & Mary defense, where Weir finished into the lower right-hand corner.
Two minutes later, Weir found her second of the evening as Celine Kampmann brought the ball forward from the backline before sending it to Salama in the center of the midfield. Salama once again played Weir between the Tribe’s defensive line and Weir put it over the goalkeeper, making it 2-0 to end the first half.
Weir found her third goal of the night shortly after the halftime break in the 48th minute. Gabby Ciocca won the play in the midfield, moving into a give-and-go with Salama and Weir. Ciocca played Weir around the Tribe defense as Weir made no mistake on the finish to complete her hat trick.
The Tribe broke the Hokies’ clean sheet in the 87th minute with a strong individual effort outside of the 18-yard box and a shot low and hard into the far corner.
