NORTHBROOK, Ill. – James Madison safety KJ Flowe has been selected as a nominee for the 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, as announced by Allstate and the Wuerffel Foundation.
Flowe was one of 175 nominees honored across all three Divisions for the annual award, which recognizes student-athletes and head coaches who are making an impact through community service, academic achievement and leadership beyond the gridiron.
The Charlotte, N.C. native has made a profound impact on the youth of Harrisonburg and the surrounding area through his community service endeavors. Flowe makes regular trips to William Perry Elementary School in Waynesboro, Va., mentoring fourth- and fifth-graders alongside his teammates. These trips to local schools include engaging in field days, reading days, and lunch visits as JMU strengthens its bond with communities in the Shenandoah Valley.
Flowe has also participated in other philanthropic activities, such as the Let’s SAAC Hunger food drive, Be The Match bone marrow registry drive (now called the National Marrow Donor Program), and numerous fundraising efforts to equip teachers in the area with school supplies.
The junior, along with other leaders on the James Madison football team, has also formed a bond with John Paul Macri, a youth of a JMU alum who was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) – a rare and aggressive type of brain tumor. Flowe and teammates have been incredibly close with John Paul and his family, frequently checking in with them and hosting them when they visit campus. At the 2025 JMU Spring Game, John Paul toured the Dukes’ facilities, participated in warm-ups, and even scored a touchdown.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team recognizes college football student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional commitment to community service, academics and athletics. Established in 1992 and presented by Allstate since 2008, the program honors players who use their platforms to strengthen communities and support causes important to them.
The 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will be announced in September and include 22 student-athletes and one honorary head coach. One student-athlete will also be selected as team captain and receive the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.
