COVINGTON, Va. – The City of Covington has authorized an emergency procurement to repair a damaged sewer line at the Dry Run Pump Station after officials discovered a cracked fiberglass pipe.
According to an Emergency Procurement Determination signed Friday by City Manager Allen L. Dressler, the repair will require temporarily shutting down the station’s current pumps while a bypass pumping system is put into place to keep wastewater flowing during the repair.
The city has selected Littleton & Associates to complete the project. The work includes providing a bypass pump, repairing the cracked fiberglass line, restoring service to the main force line, and covering pump rentals, materials, and labor.
City officials said the emergency procurement was necessary because: The repair requires specialized work at the pump station. The contractor has the experience and equipment needed to complete the project. The company is located nearby and can respond quickly to the emergency.
The City of Covington said the contractor was selected as the quickest and most fiscally responsible option based on the current emergency and supply and cost considerations.
The emergency procurement determination was approved by City Manager Allen L. Dressler on July 10, 2026. At this time, the city has not announced any expected service interruptions or a timeline for completion of the repairs.
