COVINGTON, Va. (VR) -  Area ministers, local leaders and community members gathered Thursday at noon at Covington City Hall for the annual National Day of Prayer. Speakers included Steve Noel, Bill Gilland, Tamala Preston, Randall Allen, David Schmall, Kyle Moore, Allen Dressler, Lorri Boyd, George Broughman and Linda Kagarise, while Jed Carpenter and David Crosier provided music. Guests were invited to lunch at Good News on Main following the event.

STAUNTON, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany girls tennis team improved to 12-3 on the season with a 7-2 victory over Riverheads, powered by a dominant performance in singles play and two wins in doubles competition.

Alleghany claimed five of the six singles matches, led by Haley Ryder with an 8-3 win. Alayla Morgan added an 8-1 victory, while Kara Nicely posted an 8-0 shutout. Mylee Dunbar earned an 8-1 win and Emma Wolfe completed singles play with another 8-1 victory. In doubles action, Lainie McCormick and Morgan teamed up for an 8-5 win. Ryder and Graycin Proffit dropped a close 7-9 decision, while Nicely and Dunbar secured the final match with an 8-4 victory.
