As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland delivered remarks during a Joint Meeting of Congress. King Charles III is the second British monarch to address a joint meeting of Congress. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was the first to do so in 1991. Following the joint meeting of Congress, U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA), who is also Chairman of the Congressional Friends of Wales Caucus, issued the following statement:

“It is an honor to witness King Charles III address a Joint Meeting of Congress. As someone who in 2007 briefly escorted Queen Elizabeth II from the old House of Delegates chamber to the current House of Delegates chamber for a joint legislative session, today’s historic proceedings were particularly special for me.

“The relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom is bound by a rich shared heritage, with some of that heritage grounded right here in Virginia. Our peoples’ growth together shows the endless potential of our relationship. The United States will continue to be close with one of our historical allies.”
