ALLEGHANY COUNTY, VA (VR)- On Saturday April 18, 2026 the Sharon Ruritan Club along with Sheriff Moore conducted another area cleanup. This time Rt. 850 (old rt. 60) was the focus of attention. In total 11 bags of trash were collected. Another area along that route will be focused on by the Inmate work crew. 15 volunteers were involved in this project which took place between 9am and 12 pm. In total 180lbs of trash was collected.

A really good lunch was prepared and enjoyed. This was just another example of likeminded groups getting together to cleanup trash that people choose to throw out their windows or allow to blow out of their vehicles. Alleghany County is a beautiful county and we would like to ask everyone to help keep it that way.

Sheriff Moore would like to challenge everyone who lives in Alleghany County to pick up at least one bag of trash in your neighborhood and send us the photo. It only takes a little while and it shows that we care about our community. The Sheriff’s Office will make arrangements with VDOT to have the trash picked up.

If you know of an area that needs to be cleaned up, contact your local Ruritan Club or leave us a message and we will try to get our inmate work crew on it.
