Nicole Gray scored a victory at No. 3 singles and Alleghany won two of three doubles in a 6-3 Three Rivers District loss to Radford Monday at Clifton Middle School.
Kaylie Hampton teamed with Aysia Massie to win at No. 2 doubles, while Meghan Cash and Vanna Hoke won at three doubles.
Radford, who lost in the Class 2 state finals a year ago, has nine state championship s and nine state runner-up finishes in their girls tennis history.
“Today was a tough loss against a really solid Radford team,” said AHS?coach Nicole Fogus. “They are at a little bit of a higher level than what we’re used to playing. It shows us a lot areas to improve on in order to get up to that level.
“I’m super proud of Nicole for her win though,” Fogus added. “She fought hard and kept a level head and it paid off.”
Alleghany (0-1 TRD, 2-1 overall) hosts Bath County on Wednesday.
