COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The City of Covington held its annual tree lighting ceremony Sunday evening, followed by milk, cookies, and photos with Santa. Patsy’s Dance Studio opened the event, with Edgemont Preschool performing next. The Covington Fire Department arrived on “Code Jingle” to escort Santa to City Hall. This year’s tree was lit by Ella Piercey winner of the city’s elementary school coloring contest, a tradition that gives one student the honor each December. Inside council chambers, Santa met with families for photos provided by the city. Each child received milk, cookies, and a small gift before the night wrapped up.
