COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - Sunday August 2nd was a special day at First Christian Church in Covington as Minister Bill Gilliland celebrated three remarkable milestones: his 75th birthday, 53 years in ministry, and 40 years as pastor of the church. The celebration also included the official unveiling of the newly named "Preacher Bill" Family Life Center.

Notice of Joint Public Hearing with Covington City Council and Planning Commission

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Notice is hereby given that the Council for the City of Covington, Virginia will conduct a joint Public Hearing with the Covington Planning Commission pursuant to Section 15.2-2204 (A) of the Code of Virginia (1950, as amended) on Tuesday, December 02, 2025 at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall located at 333 W. Locust Street, Covington, Virginia.

The joint meeting is to consider:

The rezoning request of Newco Inc. for property located on East Cherry Street, Covington, Virginia, 24426. The request seeks to rezone Lots 5 and 6 of Block 43, and Lots 27, 28, and 29 of Block 44, from C-3 (General Business) to M-1 (Light Industrial). The purpose of the request is to allow the property to be used as contractor laydown yards and for parking.

Any person desiring to be heard in favor of, in opposition to, or to express his or her views with respect to the proposed ordinance may appear before and be heard by the City Council during the Public Hearing in the City Council Chambers, Covington City Hall, on the above stated date and
time.
