LEWISBURG, W.Va. — A community choir under the direction of Dr. Calvin McClinton will perform selections from the Easter portion of George Frideric Handel’s oratorio, The Messiah, on Saturday, April 20, at 7 p.m.
The performance will be held in the sanctuary of the Old Stone Presbyterian Church, located at 644 Church Street in historic Lewisburg, W.Va.
It is open to the public free of charge.
Although not as familiar as the Christmas portion, the Easter portion of the Messiah relates the story of The Passion, the resurrection of the dead and Christ’s glorification in heaven. It includes a number of beautiful choruses including the famed Hallelujah Chorus and solos including I Know My Redeemer Liveth.
The choir will be accompanied by an instrumental ensemble made of up local musicians. The singers include many choir members from the Old Stone Church, where Dr. McClinton is director of music. They are joined by some present and former members of the Greenbrier Valley Chorale and other volunteer singers from the community.
If you are familiar with the music, you are invited to sing along with the choir. If you have a Messiah score, please bring it with you.
