HOT SPRINGS — Eight straight and counting.
The Bath County boys soccer team is rolling.
Wednesday night at Carl F. Williams Field, Sean Gardener scored four goals and Darin Ryder added three as the Chargers kicked Craig County, 9-3, in the semifinals of the Pioneer District tournament.
Bath County hosts Parry McCluer, a 7-0 winner over Covington Wednesday in Buena Vista, for the tourney title tonight at 6 p.m.
“I’m pleased with it,” said BCHS?coach Mark Hall. “Winning is winning. We’re one step closer to our goal. Give Craig credit — they we’re fired up.
The Chargers led just 3-2 at halftime, but dominated play in the second half.
Bath County took a 4-2 lead in the 55th minute when Tyler Bryant played a ball ahead to Gardener, who netted his own rebound.
Ryder then scored off a long punt by keeper Tye Hooker for the first of his three second-half goals.
After the Rockets sliced the lead to 5-3, Ryder headed in a long throw-in from Gardener in the 64th minute and completed his hat trick by heading in a Travis Hall corner kick.
Gardener scored his third and fourth goals of the night to finish off the win.
Bath County first-half goals came from Gardener, off a Bryant assist, Dillan Phenegar, from a Hall corner, and an own goal created by a Trey Shaver attack on a pass from Hall.
The Chargers improved to 9-1 on the season.
They haven’t lost since a 5-2 setback against Alleghany way back on April 3.
Bath County swept the season series with Parry McCluer, 3-1 and 5-2.
Girls Game Postponed
Wednesday night’s scheduled Pioneer District girls soccer championship game between Bath County and Eastern Montgomery was postponed.
The title game is now set for tonight at 5 p.m., in Elliston.
