The Shadow
COVINGTON, VA (VR) – Cedar Hill Cemetery is one of the official locations for the 2026 National Wreaths Across America Day.
We know there are other cemeteries in the area, so we are reaching out to the community to encourage people to purchase wreaths to be placed on graves at cemeteries outside Cedar Hill. Wreaths are $17 each and can be purchased online by visiting the Wreaths Across America website or scanning the QR code below. Checks can also be mailed to P.O. Box 1015, made payable to Wreaths Across America.
Checks are also being accepted at the following locations:
-
Genealogical Society, 516 Pine St., Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
-
The Depot, 149 North Maple Ave., Tuesday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The wreaths will be placed during a special ceremony at noon on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2026, at Cedar Hill Cemetery, in coordination with the ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
For those picking up wreaths to place at other cemeteries, Brenda Linkenhoker will be available at the Discovery Center, 227 North Maple Ave., on Thursday, Dec. 17, and Friday, Dec. 18, from 1 to 5 p.m. each day.
The goal for Covington is to raise enough funds to place more than 1,400 sponsored veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of all local heroes laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The effort seeks to ensure that those who served to protect our country’s freedoms are never forgotten while bringing the community together in patriotic commemoration.
Volunteers are needed to place the wreaths and honor these heroes. Those interested in volunteering with Wreaths Across America or sponsoring a wreath for Cedar Hill Cemetery are invited to visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/VACEHC to learn more.
The Wreaths Across America committee will continue sharing updates as plans progress. Visit the website to sponsor wreaths, donate to programs or volunteer. For questions, please contact any of the committee members: Phil Amick, Cynthia Baroody, Linda Boggs, Brenda Linkenhoker, Linda Morrison, Marian Paxton or Lisa Worley. The Wreaths Across America QR code is also a convenient way to access information.
Thank you to the Alleghany Highlands community for always being there for our veterans.
