ALLEGHANY HIGHLANDS, VA (VR — The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism is proud to announce that the VA250 Mobile Museum will make a special stop in our community from August 8–10 as part of the Kars Unlimited Streetscene event in downtown Covington. This exciting, immersive traveling exhibit is a key feature of the Commonwealth’s efforts to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

The VA250 Mobile Museum is a state-of-the-art exhibit on wheels designed to bring Virginia’s role in the American Revolution to life. Featuring interactive displays, artifacts, and engaging storytelling, the mobile museum offers a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to explore our nation’s founding in a hands-on, accessible way — completely free of charge.

“We are thrilled to welcome the VA250 Mobile Museum to the Alleghany Highlands,” said Josh Taylor, Executive Director of the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.

“This is a rare opportunity to be part of a statewide initiative that not only celebrates our shared national history but also highlights the important role the Alleghany Highlands has played in American history since the 1700s.”

The museum will be on display throughout the StreetScene event, one of the region’s most well- attended community gatherings, giving visitors & locals the chance to engage with history in a fresh and memorable way.

Behind this effort is a dedicated Alleghany Highlands VA250 Planning Committee, made up of local government, nonprofit, historical, educational, tourism & community leaders. The committee meets regularly to plan community-wide events, student programs, and public exhibits tied to the VA250 commemoration — all aimed at honoring the region’s legacy and ensuring meaningful public participation.

“The Alleghany Highlands VA250 committee is honored to have been chosen to host the VA250 Mobile Museum,” said Marian Paxton of the Alleghany Historical Society. “This interactive mobile museum is an excellent opportunity for our local youth to see our country’s history through this hands-on experience.”

Building on this year’s momentum, the Alleghany Highlands VA250 Planning Committee is actively working to bring the VA250 Mobile Museum back in 2026 for a separate community celebration in Clifton Forge, ensuring continued region-wide involvement in the commemoration and expanding opportunities for residents across the Highlands to participate.

For more information about local VA250 efforts, visit https://va250.org/alleghany-county.

Details about the mobile museum can be found at https://va250.org/mobile-museum.
